After the Professional Education Certificate has been issued, the teacher must earn 6 semester hours OR 18 SB-CEUs that have been approved by the Michigan Department of Education. A combination of credit hours and SB-CEUs is acceptable. Semester credits or SB-CEUs must have been completed within the five year period preceding the date of application and after the date of issuance of the previous certificate.
When you meet requirements for the Professional Education Renewal, apply for your updated certificate through the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS). Because the Michigan Department of Education is transitioning to MOECS, they are not accepting applications for any type of teacher certification from November 15, 2010 through February 7, 2011. MOECS will be activated beginning February 8, 2011.
