A Second Renewal of a Provisional Certificate requires completion of 18 semester hours after the issuance of the Michigan Provisional Certificate or a master's degree in a field related to teaching earned at any time.
Coursework must support either:
- A coherent plan for professional development that is appropriate for the teaching context,
- Development of new knowledge and/or skills in existing endorsement areas, or
- The addition of a new endorsement area.
At least 12 credits are required from EMU and six credits may be transferred if pre-approved by the certification coordinator. No SB-CEUs may be used, and no community college credits will be accepted unless pre-approved.
If you are using transfer credits, have an official transcript from the other school sent to the Office of Admissions, P.O. Box 970, EMU, Ypsilanti, MI 48197.
When you meet requirements for the Second Renewal, and your relevant EMU grades are posted, apply for your updated certificate through the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS). Because the Michigan Department of Education is transitioning to MOECS, they are not accepting applications for any type of teacher certification from November 15, 2010 through February 7, 2011. MOECS will be activated beginning February 8, 2011. |
