Passing scores on all three sections of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) Professional Readiness Examination (formerly known as the Basic Skills Test) are required for admission into EMU’s Initial Teacher Preparation Program.
The MTTC Professional Readiness Examination (formerly known as the Basic Skills Test) consists of three components: reading, mathematics and writing. The reading and mathematics portions each have about 45 multiple-choice questions. The writing portion of the Basic Skills test requires you to provide a writing sample in response to a given assignment.
The MTTC Professional Readiness Examination is administered every year in January, April, July, October and November as a paper-based test. A computer-based test is offered in December, February, March, May, June, August and September. See the MTTC web site at www.mttc.nesinc.com for dates, costs, locations, study guides and registration materials.
