Secondary Education (Grades 6-12)

EMU prepares teachers in a variety of subjects at the secondary level. The secondary teaching certificate allows you to teach grades 6-12 in your major and minor.

If you want to become a secondary teacher, there are three major components to the courses that you must take:

  • You will be required to complete a group of general education courses.
  • You will complete a major and, in most instances, a minor from among certain minors.
  • You will complete your studies with a series of professional education courses, concluding with student teaching.

Following is a list of the approved majors and minors for secondary education students at EMU.
