In order to provide students with enough information to make an informed decision about pursuing elementary education, the College of Education offers group advising sessions each month on campus. Each group session lasts about two hours. All undergraduates who are pursuing regular elementary certification (not special education majors) are required to attend one elementary group advising session. The elementary group advising session benefits students by:
- Providing the information they need to understand their program requirements.
- Explaining major and minor choices.
- Providing opportunities to ask questions about elementary teacher certification.
- Providing access to elementary education faculty advisors.
You are welcome to attend an elementary group advising session at your earliest convenience. No reservations are required. The schedule of group advising sessions is available at www.emich.edu/coe/oas/sessions.html.
After attending a group session, you may make an appointment to meet with a faculty advisor in the Department of Teacher Education. Call 734.487.3260 or stop by 313 Porter Building to schedule a time.
If you plan to become a teacher of young children, you will also need to attend an Early Childhood group advising session after attending an elementary group advising session. No reservations are required. The schedule of group advising sessions is available at www.emich.edu/coe/oas/sessions.html.
