EMU's Department of Special Education offers programs to prepare teachers of students with emotional impairments, cognitive impairments, physical/health impairments, hearing impairments, visual impairments, and speech and language impairments.

If you want to become a special education teacher, there are three major components to the courses that you must take.

  1. You will be required to complete a group of general education courses.
  2. You must complete a major from among the special education majors and a minor from among certain minors.
  3. You will complete your studies with a series of professional education courses, concluding with student teaching.

The following majors are available as elementary or secondary endorsements:
