Teach in China

Chinese elementary student

Eastern Michigan University, in partnership with Weiming Education Group (WEG), is offering undergraduates, graduates, and certified teachers the opportunity to teach subjects (in English) at WEG elementary and secondary classrooms throughout China.

Non-certified, undergraduate and graduate students can apply for the one semester, special topics course for three credit hours. Certified teachers can apply for a one-year, paid teaching position in China. See below for admission requirements, application deadlines, and more.

One-semester, teaching in China for credit

Eastern Michigan University and Weiming Education Group (WEG) have partnered to offer the International Teaching in China Program. This three (3) credit hour course is offered at both the undergraduate and graduate level by Eastern's Academic Programs Abroad Office.

Admission Requirements

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Must have completed a student teaching placement or plan to in Winter 2014.

Benefits (through Weiming Education Group)

  • $500 monthly cash stipend for the first year of contract.
  • Health insurance.
  • $300 one-time relocation allowance.
  • Roundtrip airfare to China provided.
  • Apartment style furnished housing provided (w/TV and Internet).
  • Meals available at school sites.
  • Explore China! Travel within the country is very reasonable.

  • Winter 2014: November 1, 2013

One-year, paid teaching position in China

Eastern Michigan University and Weiming Education Group (WEG) are offering certified teachers the opportunity to teach in China for one year. This opportunity is coordinated by the College of Education (COE).

Admission Requirements

  • No Chinese language skill needed.
  • Native English speaker.
  • Must be Michigan teacher certified.
  • Required to sign a contract with the host school.
  • Participate in orientation program at EMU.
  • Valid passport.

  • $1,000 monthly cash stipend for the first year of contract.
  • Health insurance.
