Mission

The mission of this certificate is to prepare professionals who are capable of facilitating student learning in a variety of settings. The program is designed to provide students with both the knowledge base and the application skills that are required to use technology effectively in education. Focusing on the design, development, utilization, management and evaluation of instructional systems moves us toward achieving this mission.

Career Opportunities

The Graduate Certificate in Educational Media and Technology focuses on assisting educators both in P-20 academic environments and private industry in integrating technology by reviewing research, providing hands-on experiences, requiring students to develop lesson plans and technology plans, and looking at pedagogical reasons for integrating technology in the classroom.

Accreditation

The EDMT graduate certificate program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the International Society for Teaching with Technology (ISTE).

After completing the master of arts program in Educational Media & Technology, already certified Michigan teachers can apply for the Educational Technology Endorsement.

Michigan Educational Technology Endorsement:The Educational Media & Technology master of arts program is also approved by the Michigan Department of Education for the preparation of educational personnel. After completing the master of arts program in Educational Media & Technology, already certified Michigan teachers can apply for the Educational Technology Endorsement. Teachers holding this endorsement may have opportunities to mentor other teachers and provide leadership by example in the schools where they are employed. This endorsement is not intended to relieve the responsibilities of Michigan educators to be prepared to use Information Age tools and learning techniques and processes. To the contrary, the expectations set forth in the State Board's policy that all educators and administrators will be prepared to use Information Age tools and learning techniques and processes remains a strong expectation. The purpose of the endorsement is to encourage the development of Information Age learning practices and techniques throughout the learning communities of Michigan by recognizing the accomplishments of educators who gain expertise in such skills and by creating new avenues and incentives for the use of Information Age practices in professional development, as well as by creating a growing cadre of highly skilled professionals with such knowledge and skills.
