	Dr. J. Joe Bishop - Associate Professor
	Joe Bishop was a 2006 Fulbright Scholar on the Islamic Studies Faculty at the University of Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, where he lectured on educating for active democratic citizenship. He holds two Master’s degrees (Sociology and Anthropology) and completed his PhD in International Education and Social Studies Education at The University of Iowa. He has worked with educators from or in a number of Eurasian countries to develop programs to educate for democratic citizenship. His other interests include philosophy, religion, popular culture, language and culture, sociology of knowledge, globalization, and research methods.

	Dr. Rebecca Martusewicz - [Full] Professor
	Rebecca Martusewicz teaches courses on ecojustice, teaching for social and ecological justice, ecofeminism, gender and education, and sociology of education.  She is editor of two journals: Educational Studies and The EcoJustice Review: Educating for the Commons, an internationally juried online publication. She is author of Seeking Passage: Post-Structuralism, Ethics, Education and other book chapters and articles.  Her current research interests include the cultural foundations of the ecological crisis, as well as the theoretical foundations of ecojustice pedagogy and community education. She has an Ed.D. from the University of Rochester.

	Dr. Jeanne Pietig - [Full] Professor
	Jeanne Pietig received her doctorate from the University of Minnesota. Her research interests include ethics, philosophy of education, and open education. She is a past president of the American Educational Studies Association as well as EMU’s chapter of the American Association of University Professors. Her articles and reviews have appeared in a variety of journals in education. Before coming to EMU as department head, she taught at the University of Colorado, the University of Virginia, and Utah State University.  Jeanne is the proud owner of two rescued cats.

	Dr. Paul J. Ramsey – Assistant Professor
	Paul (“Joe”) Ramsey completed his Master’s degree and PhD in the history of education at Indiana University, where he taught history and philosophy of education courses for six years.  In 2006, he received a Spencer Foundation Dissertation Fellowship and, in 2007, won the History of Education Society’s Henry Barnard Prize.  His articles and reviews have appeared in an array of history and education journals. Joe’s historical interests include bilingual education, immigration, childhood, popular culture, and globalization.  His other broad areas of interest include philosophy, literature, and educational policy.
	Dr. Christopher Robbins - Assistant Professor
	Christopher Robbins earned a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with emphases on critical cultural studies and sociology of education from Penn State University. His research interests include critical and public pedagogy, the interrelationships of social and educational policy, racism and racial inequality, and the impacts of criminalization and militarization on schools and public culture.

	Dr. Pamela K. Smith - Assistant Professor
	Pamela K. Smith earned her PhD at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she studied with Henry A. Giroux and Peter McLaren.  She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses, writes in diverse arenas, and serves on numerous committees related to diversity and social justice.  Dr. Smith is currently working on a biographical descriptor of the life of George S. Counts, linking his work to current problems and potential solutions to today's schooling dysfunctions.  Her research interests are philosophy and sociology of education, the history of education, and critical cultural studies of education.
