Flashback homecoming

Dust off those platform shoes and Members Only jackets. The 1970s and 1980s are back – at least for a day. Flashback Homecoming is this year’s theme for the events and activities leading up to the Oct. 27 football game. That means plenty of great retro music and, hopefully, plenty of great warm memories to share once you return to campus.

Leadership 101: Student Government leader dives into new role

One day last June, Greg Jones, Eastern Michigan University’s new student body president, made a pilgrimage to Lansing along with about 20 other university student government leaders from across the state. They were lobbying lawmakers to spare higher education. Several young leaders spoke, but the Associated Press story that went statewide quoted only one person: Jones. Read more

Coach Harkema, California Bowl team honored

Jim Harkema again led an EMU football team onto the field this fall at Rynearson Stadium. Only this time, it was at halftime and not kickoff. Harkema and student-athletes from the 1987 California Bowl team – the last EMU football team to play in or win a bowl game – were honored at the Sept. 8 football game. Read more

EMU Travel Society sets sail for Holland, Belgium

Eastern Michigan University is again offering its alumni and friends affordably priced trips through its popular Alumni Travel Society program. The program is administered by the Office for Alumni Relations through partnerships. The next trip is April 13-21, 2008, and features the waterways and canals of Holland and Belgium. Participants will cruise the scenic ring of canals in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and admire beautiful arrangements of Dutch tulips and other flowers at the renowned Keukenhof Gardens. Read more

Alumni honor excellence in the classroom, lab

Six EMU professors will be honored Saturday, Sept. 22, by the EMU Alumni Association for excellence as educators. Winners of the annual Teaching Excellence Awards are nominated by either alumni or current students, and are chosen based upon their abilities as creative, inspiring and knowledgeable instructors.
