Policy on NCAA rules violations
The NCAA Constitution requires, as an obligation of membership, an institution to monitor its athletics programs to assure compliance with NCAA rules and to identify and report to the NCAA instances in which compliance has not been achieved. To operate within the letter of NCAA rules and fulfill this membership obligation, it is Eastern Michigan University's policy that all personnel will report any and all situations in which we are not in compliance with NCAA regulations to the Director of Compliance, the Athletics Director and/or the Faculty Athletics Representative immediately upon learning that a violation may have occurred.
All confirmed rules violations will be self-reported by EMU to the Conference and the NCAA.
Once an infraction of NCAA rules and regulations has been alleged or confirmed, an internal inquiry will be undertaken. The Director of Compliance will serve as the investigator for all secondary infractions. Outside counsel may be retained for alleged major infractions. Upon completion of an internal review, a full report, with appropriate corrective actions, will be forwarded to the Mid-American Conference. The following persons will be copied on all self-reports made to the NCAA: President, Vice President for Enrollment Services, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Faculty Athletics Representative.
The Director of Compliance will provide the President, the Faculty Athletics Representative and the Director of Athletics with a yearly written summary of all self-reported violations and all subsequent NCAA Intercollegiate responses/actions.
