Welcome! to the department of Computer Science at Eastern Michigan University. Our department is located in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and strives to provide students a broad education centered on computer science and delivered in the context of the liberal arts.

All facilities of our department are housed in Pray- Harrold with offices and labs on the fifth floor and classrooms on the third floor.

  • The CS Department successfully organized its third IT Fair in conjunction with the EMU Career Services Center on Friday, Nov 21,2008.
  • The CS Department successfully organized its second IT recruitment event in conjunction with and assistance of the EMU Career Services Center on Friday, April 11,2008.

  • Recent Scholarly Activity: Presentations at University of Michigan Psychiatry Silverman Conference, and INDY07 Bioinformatics Conference.

    EMU Computer Science faculty have had papers accepted to 2007 meeting of the Society for the History of Technology, 2007 meeting of the Society for Social Studies of Sciencethe 2007 IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence and Data Mining, the ACM Transactions on the Web, the ACM Electronic Commerce 2006 conference, the IMECS 2006 conference, the Michigan Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters 2006 conference, the Michigan Association of Computer Users in Learning 2007 conference, and the ACM SIGCSE 2007 conference. A recent book is Wp-Calculus: An Introduction to Formal Methods (Wiley, 2006).

  • New Hardware Lab: To support classes, research, and experimentation, the department has established a 20-station hardware lab in Pray-Harrold 514 (the open lab is now in 513). The lab will be used in classes in microprocessors, robotics, real-time, and some sections of computer organization 1 and 2. There are new lab benches, heavy-duty cabinets, microprocessor trainers, multi-meters, etc.

  • Dr. Paul Ceruzzi of the Smithsonian recently presented a talk at the EMU Computer Science speaker series, "From the ARPANET to the Internet: how a military project became a world-wide cultural phenomenon, 1970-1995". About 100 people attended.

Computer Science Student Meeting (Nov., 5)
Computer Science students!

We're preparing to launch the Experimental Interactive Media Lab. We need students to join and help guide the committees on the lab's three overlapping areas of interest:

    - gaming

    - simulation+visualization

    - human-computer interaction

Even if you missed the first meeting, you are welcome to join these efforts. If you can't come to the Nov. 5 meeting, but are interested in these areas, please email Dr. Bill McMillan
