Company:  Washtenaw Community Health Organization

The Washtenaw Community Health Organization (WCHO) is a public, non-profit organization (501(c)(1)) created in August of 2000 by the University of Michigan Regents and the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners. The mission of WCHO is to establish an integrated health care delivery system that provides mental health, substance abuse, primary and specialty physical health care and health education to Medicaid, low income and indigent consumers in Washtenaw County. The WCHO brings together the local public mental health and substance abuse systems (Coordinating Agency) with primary care services at the University of Michigan Health System and the community to provide an integrated system of care.

As a Project Management Work-study Student or Intern you will assist in managing projects related to the Encompass electronic health record, used by Community Mental Health staff and providers in five Michigan counties. Projects involve the development of new electronic forms or modules, or the revision of existing modules. The student will assist in planning and managing projects that may be at any point from inception to implementation.

Responsibilities might include any of the following:
  • Assist in creating and executing project work plans,
  • Application systems/project planning, estimating, tracking and management,
  • Manage day to day operational aspects of a project,
  • Create and update project status documents,
  • Follow-up with staff to gather input and meet deadlines,
  • Provider regular project updates to lead Project Manager, and
  • Collaborate with Lead Project Manager, Designer, Technical Writer, Trainers, and Target Users.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Computer Science or Information Systems undergraduate or graduate student,
  • Previous coursework in Project Management,
  • Demonstrated understanding of information system design.
Students will be expected to work at minimum 10 hours per week for three months. Limited off-site hours are possible. Intern stipend amount is $500/semester.

As a Work-study Student or Intern at the Washtenaw Community Health Organization, you will attend meetings, consult with staff in other counties and departments, and communicate with an information system vendor. At minimum the student will meet with a supervisor biweekly. Interns will be provided with a final summary and evaluation. Meetings will be held at Washtenaw County's Towner building, at 555 Towner Street in Ypsilanti.
