The Department of Mechanical Engineering seeks an enthusiastic, self-motivated programmer with solid communication skills and an excellent work ethic, for the position of Applications Programmer/Analyst Associate. To be considered for this position you must include a cover letter with your resume.
The successful candidate will work as a member of an IT team that includes desktop support services, web applications development and audio-visual support. This position is one of two primary developers reporting to the Web Project Manager. The web applications group is a fast-paced environment requiring multi-tasking, strong attention to detail, and the ability to accurately follow instructions and specifications.

Responsibilities:
Core duties include analysis, design and implementation of scripts, web applications and other software in support of academic and research initiatives, with a heavy emphasis on web applications including expected further long term development of applications to add on new features, etc. Additional activities will include database design, routine web site maintenance, and occasionally interacting with drop-in customers to resolve a variety of issues. This is a team-oriented position that will require testing and modifying other developers' code, as well as thorough documentation skills (technical and functional). Ability to follow specific technical directions as needed is also a must.

Required:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience. 1 to 2 years systems analysis/programming activities.
Preferred:

Knowledge of the key technologies used, including PHP 5, MySQL, Zend Framework, SVN, AJAX

Understanding of ORMs and MVC frameworks and the reasons for utilizing them

Knowledge of Web 2.0 technologies and how they are used to advance academic objectives

Strong background in HTML, CSS, and XML

Experience with scripting for data manipulation and sysadmin tasks with common tools like Perl, bash, vbscript, csh

General knowledge of data manipulation using common UNIX shell tools
