How do I request a new fund?
New fund requests should be in writing and should include the following information; detailed description of the purpose of the fund, revenue source, type of expenditures expected, the person responsible and the authorized signers.

The written request for fund openings should be sent to one of the following offices: General Fund opening requests sent to Budget Office; Designated Fund to Divisional Vice President for approval and forwarded to Accounting Department; Auxiliary Fund to University Budget Assistant Director, Auxiliary; Expendable Restricted Fund to the Office of Research Development; Endowment Fund to EMU Foundation, Director of Business and Finance; Agency Fund to Accounting Department.

Requests for change of fund title should also be sent to the above offices. Requests for change of responsible person or authorized signers should be forwarded to the appropriate fund accountant. Inquiries regarding who the authorized signers are on a particular account can be addressed to the appropriate fund accountant.

A non-payroll charge has hit the wrong fund. How can I get it moved to the correct fund?
If the error is due to someone in your department filling out a requisition or other form incorrectly, complete form A-79, "Expense Transfer Form", including a detailed reason for the transfer and authorized signature and send it to the fund accountant. If you identify an error that seems to have been the result of an Accounting Department error, simply forward a copy of your statement with a note identifying the problem to your fund accountant. Always include a copy of the Report of Transactions with the questioned transaction highlighted.

There seems to be errors related to payroll or benefit charges on my fund. Who should I contact?
Contact your fund accountant.

An open commitment (encumbrance) on my fund should be closed out. How do I get this taken care of?
Send a copy of your fund statement, with the open commitment, and liquidated highlighted, to the Purchasing Department with a note requesting that the open commitment be liquidated. Also contact the Purchasing Department to cancel an outstanding Purchase Order that is no longer needed.

There is a charge on my fund that I do not recognize or understand. Who should I call for an explanation? What information should I have ready to discuss?
Contact your Fund Accountant. Have the fund number, description, reference number and dollar amount ready to discuss with the appropriate contact.

I need an updated listing of account codes. Who can I request this from? Also, I would like to request a new account code be created for a specific purpose. How can I accomplish this?
Requests for an updated copy of account codes can be addressed to your fund accountant. Requests for the creation of a new account code should be sent to the Accounting Manager, 207 Hover Building, with a complete explanation of the purpose of the code including how it will be used.
