Perkins Loan Department
To apply for a Perkins Loan, a student must fill out a FAFSA application at www.fafsa.ed.gov each year of attendance. Once the FAFSA is processed, the Office of Financial Aid will determine eligibility and package the student with financial aid.
If the student is packaged with a Perkins Loan and all financial aid verification has been completed, the Student Loans Office at EMU will print and mail thte Perkins Loan promissory note and the entrance interview packet to the student's permanent mailing address. The promissory note and all forms in the packet must be completed and returned to Student Business Services at 201 Pierce Hall - Ypsilanti, MI 48197. Upon receipt of all completed documents, the Perkins Loan is applied to the student's account.
When a student graduates, drops below half-time enrollment status, or transfers to another school, the student must complete the Perkins Loan exit interview. The Student Loans Office services and assists Perkins Loan borrowers while enrolled, in grace period, and in repayment until the Perkins Loan is paid in full. The Student Loans Office may be reached at (734) 487-3335 or (800) 813-3479.
