Student Learning Outcomes
To become qualified, gain employment or promotion and be effective and successful as a professional in engineering management, graduates of our engineering management program should be able to demonstrate skills, knowledge and abilities in the following competency areas:
Competency in Engineering Management Professional Certification.
Demonstrate attainment of skills, knowledge and abilities important to the core discipline of engineering management, as defined and assessed by the engineering management professional certification body of knowledge and certification examination.
Competency in Specialty Area Professional Certification.
Demonstrate attainment of skills, knowledge and abilities important to one or more specialty areas related to engineering management, as defined and assessed by the (a) project management, (b) manufacturing engineering, (c) lean, or (d) quality professional certification bodies of knowledge and certification examinations. Note: US PTO Patent Agent/Examiner certification and ASTD Educator/Trainer certification are additional specialty areas soon to be added to the EM program.)
Competency in Project Management Skills.
Demonstrate the ability to (a) effectively plan, organize, schedule, execute, and lead engineering management-related projects using virtual project teams; (b) learn and use project management software; and (c) assess team, team member, and project performance.
Competency in Personal Professional Skills.
Demonstrate (a) the ability to identify, research, and solve engineering management-related problems; (b) the ability to prioritize, start, and complete personal assignments and team tasks on time; and (c) the development of self-motivation and self-study skills as a basis for lifelong learning as a professional.
Competency in Professional Communication Skills.
Demonstrate courteous, professional and scholarly written and oral communication skills in non-colocated environments.
Competency in Leadership Skills.
Demonstrate cognitive and affective growth related to ethics, leadership skills and emotional intelligence.
