How long does it take for a student to complete the Technology & Design Education teaching certification program?
It depends on how many courses you take per semester. Traditionally, a student can complete the program of study within four years by taking some of the courses during spring and/or summer. The total number of credits for the program is 124 semester credit hours.
I hold a teaching certificate from another state. How do I transfer it to a Michigan teaching certificate?
Application is made through the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), Office of Professional Preparation Services at: http://www.michigan.gov/mde/0,1607,7-140-5234_5683_14795---,00.html Michigan will accept a valid out-of-state teaching certificate as closely as possible. Michigan has a reciprocal agreement for regular teaching certificates from other states. This means that Michigan will match the certificate and offer comparable grade level and subject area endorsements if possible.
What proficiency exam is required for the Technology Education or Vocational Education teaching certificate?
In order for you to receive a Technology Education teaching certificate, you must complete the program of study, and pass both the basic skills and content area tests, given through the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) organization. The content area test for Technology and Design Education is test #88 or TX, as labeled by the MDE.
Currently there is no test for the Vocational Education teaching certificate.
