At Eastern Phil Simmons holds a split appointment—50% in Theatre/50% in Dance—and is a Fosse specialist in Dance. Along with three other EMU colleagues, Phil has established a summer theatre company — 8th Wonder Theatre — that provides a professional performance and workshop venue for area high school/college students and theatre professionals of all ages. 8th Wonder is housed at the Village Theatre in Canton, and has intern programs for actors, designers, stage managers, and arts administration. Profits from the theatre go into Scholarship and Service Awards for EMU students.
Phil Simmons is a native Oklahoman and is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association. He has performed, directed and choreographed on Broadway, Off-Broadway, Broadway First National Tours and International Tours. For the past 20 years, he has been a working actor in New York City, and appeared in the second-longest running Off-Broadway show in history — NAKED BOYS SINGING — where he was Dance Captain and Assistant Director. Phil was a casting assistant for six different theatres and production companies in New York, and ran his own business finding and coaching audition pieces for New York performers. He is also active with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
