Audition Information
To become a dance major or minor, you must audition into the program. The final audition for the 2007-2008 academic year is on March 31, 9:30-11:00 a.m., in the Linda Crum Hemmelgarn Dance Studio, 106 Warner building. The Warner building is between the Bowen Field House and the REC IM building on campus. You will need to return the completed Audition Form and either the Dance Major Application Form or the Dance Minor Form to Joanna McNamara, prior to the audition date (Joanna McNamara, 318-S Porter, Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Michigan, 48197 or FAX: 734.487.2024). If you do not submit these completed forms prior to the audition date, it will be necessary for you to confirm your intent to audition by sending Dr. Joanna McNamara an email prior to the audition date, at jmcnamara@emich.edu.
The audition begins promptly at 9:30 a.m. All dancers are encouraged to arrive by 9:00 a.m. to make sure that the necessary forms have been received and to warm-up for the audition. Additional application forms will be on hand at the registration desk and may completed at this time, if necessary. The audition consists of a ballet barre and ballet combination, followed by a modern dance combination. Dancers are encouraged to wear footless tights with ballet slippers to ensure an easy transition from the ballet section of the audition to the modern. A letter notifying you of your audition results will be mailed to you within two weeks.
All new, incoming students are evaluated for dance program scholarships during the audition process. These scholarships are awarded in April, 2006, shortly after the last audition in March. There are also numerous scholarships offered first year students through the EMU Office of Financial Aid at: Please note that all students accepted into the dance program must complete an EMU Application Form, and be accepted into the University.
Dance faculty, staff, and students look forward to meeting you on Saturday, March 31. See you soon!
