| AUTHENTICATION CHANGEOVER
FOR WINDOWS 2000/XP
This document will help you change your dialup modem connection to my.emich
authentication. You must have a modem installed correctly, the correct
drivers loaded and a previously working dialup connection through Eastern
Michigan University to successfully complete this process.
Please follow the setup instructions on the ICT
HelpDesk Web site if you need to set up a new
Dial-up (Remote) Internet access.

Viewing Your Connection Settings
Windows XP keeps all of your dial-up settings in one convenient place.

tab. If you are setting up a dial-up connection for the first time, please
follow these steps:
- Click the
button and select Control Panel
- Click on Network and Internet Connections
- Click on Internet Options
- Now click on the Connections tab. You'll see a window like this (Some

box, type your e-mail address, which consists of your my.emich Account
username and our corresponding domain name (Ex: yourusername@emich.edu)
- In the "Password" box, type your my.emich password
NETWORK SECURITY TIP:
- Leave the "Password" box blank to better control access,
and to maximize security of your account. It's really something you
should memorize, and once you become accustomed to typing in the username
and password, you'll find it's easy
- For an added level of security, leave the "Username" box
blank too. It's simple to type in your e-mail address and password each
time before connecting.
- The "Domain" box should be blank, and all other options
should remain unchecked
STEP THREE: Reconfigure
Merit PPP Properties
- Click on the Properties button.
- You should see the General tab of the Merit PPP Properties window.
