Food Recovery Network
EMU Dining Services is proud to announce that The Commons has partnered with the Food Recovery Network (FRN) to fight waste and help families in need! We are one of only 110 colleges and universities across the country that have contributed to the recovery of over half a million pounds of food. Since working with the FRN, we realized that The Commons alone wastes over 500 pounds of food each semester! This includes waste from uneaten plates as well as unused, prepared food. Now, instead of simply throwing away the unused food, we will freeze it in FRN provided containers that they will then pick up at the end of each week. From there the food will be distributed to hungry individuals in the community.
