What are these E-Dollars again?
E-Dollars is a cash equivalent account, on your student ID card, that is part of the traditional style meal plans. The amount varies depending on the plan you selected. E-Dollars can be used at any of our shops including the convenience stores and there are no restrictions on purchases with the exception of tobacco products.
Guest Passes? How do I use those?
To use guest passes, simply tell the cashier that you wish to pay using a guest pass. Guest passes are valued at $6.10 or one admission to Dining Commons ONE.
Do I have to have a meal plan?
That depends. Students living in Residence Halls MUST have a meal plan/flex plan unless you live in the Village. Residents of the Village are not required to have a meal plan although it is highly recommended. Some of our plans have been designed with the Village in mind.
How do I change my meal plan?
To change your meal plan you need to come to the Housing and Dining Services Office and submit a Contract Amendment form. The office is located beneath Dining Commons ONE and Downing Hall. If you enter the front of Downing, go down the stairs and through the double blue doors. The office is on your left.
You can change your meal plan through the month of September for fall semester and through January for the winter semester.
Can I change my meal plan whenever I want?
No. You can change your meal plan through the month of September for fall semester and through January for the winter semester.
I live in the Village, do I have to have a meal plan?
No. Residents of the Village are not required to have a meal plan although it is highly recommended.
I live on campus. Which meal plan should I choose?
The answer varies with your dining habits and class level.
Live on Campus: If you eat every meal, you will want to select the Platinum 18 meal plan, regardless of your class level. If you don't eat every meal, you might consider the Gold 13 or the Silver 8 plan. Each plan includes E-Dollars for use whenever you desire and a number of guest passes you can use throughout the year. Upperclass residents also have the option of selecting one of our flex plans. Flex plans provide a predetermined monetary value that declines throughout semester as you use it. If you eat every meal a flex plan is probably not a good choice for you. You may not have enough for the semester. Having a Flex plan takes a little budgeting to ensure you don't run out before the semester does. The risks and opportunities are up to you.
I am a vegetarian or require special meals. Where can I eat?
Every shop has salads available. Eastern Eateries and Dining Commons ONE offer a variety of meals with a vegetarian diet in mind. If you have special needs, don't hesitate to call us at 734.487.0418 so that we can work with you to meet your needs. We'll be glad to answer any questions you may have.
I am on a limited or carb free diet like Atkins. Where can I eat?
The Student Center, Eastern Eateries and Dining Commons ONE all have options available. Most satellites also have salads that meet your needs.
Can I loan my card to a friend?
No. For your protection, the student code explicitly states that this is not allowed.
I'm sick and can't leave my room. What can I do?
You need to obtain a sick tray from from your Area Complex Director. Ask at the front desk of your hall. With this form, a friend may use your ID to obtain food for you. Without this form your ID will be confiscated from your friend.
I have a class or work and don't have time for a meal.
There are no time limitations on meals. Visit us when it is convenient for you.
Why am I charged an administrative fee for my flex plan?
In order to offer the flexibility of using your meal plan where, when and how you want we need to cover the "operating/overhead" or administrative expenses. These cover salaries, building maintenance and repair and the development of new services. The program is supported by all students on a meal plan, either by the overhead "administrative" charge or in terms of missed meals on a traditional meal plan. The cost to all would need to be raised dramatically without this fee.
