Eastern Michigan University: Students with Disabilities Office

Announcement:

On January 26, 2009 the Students with Disabilities Office changed from the Student Affairs Division to the Academic Affairs Division. The Director of SWD will now report to Dr. Lynette Findley, Assistant Vice President, Retention and Student Success.

The change will not affect services that SWD provides to students. It will result in greater collaboration with the Holman Learning Center and Academic Advising.

Who we are, how we can help you

Dr. Silva and Student MeetThe EMU Students With Disabilities Office (SWD) provides accommodations for students with disabilities and assists faculty and staff with the implementation of those accommodations.

SWD also provides technical assistance, consultation, and training to departments on campus and organizations in the community regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Disability Awareness, Inclusion and Accessibility.

About our name

Effective July 1, 2008 the name of the Access Services Office changed to the Students with Disabilities Office (SWD). This name change was prompted by several factors:

  • To make it easier for students with disabilities to find our office
  • To clarify the function of the office
  • To be consistent with the name used by other universities

Guide to Services

The Students With Disabilities Office offers a guide for students with disabilities. The booklet overviews the purpose, resources available and services that SWD offers. The booklet can be picked up in room 240K of the EMU Student Center, or it can be downloaded here:
