Eligibility for Emeritus Status
The awarding of Emeritus status is not an automatic function at retirement. It requires nomination and approval and thus is not conferred upon all who retire.
The awarding of Emeritus Status is governed by the AAUP Contract with the university. The rules are as follows:
Any member of the department, including the Department Head, may nominate for emeritus status a retiring colleague who has served the university for at least fifteen (15) years.
