About
Emeritus faculty are retirees whom the university recognizes for their service. As such, they are members of the Emeritus Faculty Association, which functions under a constitution and by-laws (These are .pdf files.).
Eligibility for Emeritus Status
The awarding of emeritus status is not an automatic function at retirement. It requires nomination and approval and thus is not conferred upon all who retire.
The awarding of emeritus status is governed by the EMU-AAUP Contract with the university. The rules are as follows:
Any member of a department, including the Department Head, may nominate for emeritus status a retiring colleague who has served the university for at least fifteen (15) years.
Directory
When we first decided to put up this web site, it seemed a good idea to have an emeritus directory here. However, we have had several requests from our members who asked that personal information (address and telephone number) not be posted.
Many emeritus faculty are included in a general university directory. That directory is searchable by name but usually gives only a university e-mail address.
Emeritus Faculty Association Meetings
Announcements of association meetings and links to minutes of recent meetings are posted on the "Meetings" page.
