Professor Booth joined the faculty of the Communications, Media & Theatre Arts Department at EMU in the fall of 2006.  Preparing students as cultural leaders through the Arts Management & Administration Program is Susan’s passion.   With a background as an artist, manager and educator Susan brings vast experience and a very unique perspective to her work here at EMU.

As an artist, Susan received her BFA in scene design from Boston University.  After graduation Susan spent a decade working as a property artisan and manager for regional theatres and opera companies such as; the New York Shakespeare Festival, the Old Globe Theatre, the Alliance Theatre Company, the Santa Fe Opera Company, the Walnut Street Theatre, the Huntington Theatre Company, and the Berkshire Theatre Festival.

Susan then returned to school and received a MFA in Theatre Management from Columbia University.  Then Susan took a position as the first development director for the Arden Theatre Company in Philadelphia.   Susan and her husband moved to the Midwest in spring of 1992 where Susan ran a small consulting business called Fund+Raising=Solutions, until she took a position as the Manager of the Toledo Cultural Arts Center (TCAC).  In her position at TCAC Susan designed and executed a plan to raise $4.7 million dollars of local matching funds that would release $15 million of state capitals dollars used to renovate the historic Valentine Theatre in downtown Toledo.

For the past decade Susan has worked as an educator.  In 1997 she began teaching at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) in the Department of Theatre & Film.  At BGSU Susan taught Introduction to Theatre, Arts Management, Introduction to Film, History of Film and Introduction to Technical Theatre.  In addition, Susan developed a new Minor in Arts Management for BGSU.  Susan was also instrumental in the development of  NWoAX - the North West Ohio Arts Exchange a collaborative program between university and community arts organizations.

Since joining EMU Professor Booth has continued to connect university resources to area cultural leaders and organizations with her research as the Associate Consultant on the Washtenaw County Master Cultural Plan (released fall 2008.)
