Biography
Professor Booth joined the CMTA faculty in the fall of 2006, with an extensive background as an artist, manager and educator. As an artist, Susan spent a decade working as a property artisan for regional theatres and opera companies such as the New York Shakespeare Festival, the Old Globe Theatre, and the Santa Fe Opera Company. After completing her graduate degree, Susan took a position as the first Development Director for the Arden Theatre Company in Philadelphia. After moving to the Midwest Susan became the first Manager of the Toledo Cultural Arts Center, where she developed a campaign to raise $19.7 million to renovate the historic Valentine Theatre. In 1997 Professor Booth turned her attention to education when she began teaching at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). BGSU utilized Susan’s collaborative talents to build a new Minor in Arts Management with the Theatre, Film, Art, Music and Entrepreneurship Programs. Since joining EMU, Professor Booth has continued to connect university resources to area cultural leaders and organizations with her research as the Associate Consultant on the Washtenaw County Master Cultural Plan (2008). Additional research projects include: Developing Entrepreneurial Skills based on Geographic Opportunities in the Detroit area (2010), Supply Chain Theory and the Creative Economy (2009), Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in an Arts Management Academic Service-Learning Project (2010) and a Feasibility Study to Expand Arts Education in Washtenaw County (2011). Susan is the faculty advisor for the AMP student organization at EMU. Professor Booth serves on the Board of the Association of Arts Administration Educators (AAAE) and Arts Enterprise (AE).
