Biography
R. MacKenzie Lewis has composed, arranged and served as music
director for dozens of Eastern
Michigan University theatre productions. He also serves as adjunct
lecturer with the
Departments of Music and Dance, and of Communication, Media & Theatre
Arts. He supervises
ENORE, a musical theatre troupe touring secondary schools and
performing at numerous area
locations. He has also composed and arranged music for EMU’s
marching band and jazz
ensemble and symphony orchestra.
Aside from his university responsibilities, Ryan music directs,
composes, orchestrates, and
arranges music for various theaters, bands, orchestras, and musicals.
Recent works include
composing the new work The Wings of Ikarus Jackson at the Kennedy
Center in Washington,
D.C., orchestrating and music directing the National Tour and
Off-Broadway premiere of The
Berenstain Bears LIVE: Family Matters, composing Video Games:
The Rock Opera and the
world premiere musical with Ben Vereen, Soaring on Black Wings.
Lewis is also the coexecutive
director for 8th Wonder Theatre, a Michigan based summer stock
providing
workshops for advanced high school musical theatre students and
combining them with college
students, local professionals and New York professionals in a
musical production that raises
scholarship money for Eastern Michigan University's musical theatre
area. He keeps himself
busy by writing and performing in a wide variety of venues and
genres and recently performed in
the Las Vegas production of Ain't Misbehavin'.
