Biography
Meriah Sage has been active in the field of theatre education and arts integration for over 15 years. Since 2001, Meriah has worked with Lincoln Center Institute (LCI), most recently acting at the lead facilitator for the LCI International Educator’s Workshop in 2010, 209, 2006. Meriah has also served as education director at The Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL and the education director and artistic director of theatre for young audiences for Apple Tree Theatre. Meriah developed and managed the Aesthetic Education LCI Program at Education for the Arts in Kalamazoo, MI. She taught as a member of the National Facilitation Team for the LCI Teaching Artist Mentoring Program until the project’s completion in 2006. Since 1997, Ms. Sage has worked as a teaching artist and director at theatres, youth organizations and schools throughout the Midwest including: Mosaic Youth Theatre and Tibbits Opera House.
Recent Theatre productions include: Patricia Polacco’s Unions City, Ashes and Hope: the 1967 Detroit Riot, Antigone & Bud, Not Buddy. Meriah received the first American Alliance of Theatre and Education (AATE) Doyle Fellowship in 2008 for excellence in the field Children’s Theatre, the 2010 Evans-Strand Diversity Award recognizing significant contributions to advancing the understanding and furthering the acceptance of diversity at EMU. Ronald and the 2008 Roland & Gerrie Collins Medal for Service to EMU.
Meriah has presented at: American Alliance of Theatre in Education (AATE), The Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed Conference, The LSSU Superior Festival and The International Performing Arts for Youth Conference. Recent research includes the 2011 Feasibility Study for Expanding Arts Education Programming in the Washtenaw County Public Schools for which she was a Co-Researcher & Co-Author. Meriah has worked with and/or taught at numerous arts institutions including: Lincoln Center Institute, The Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, Apple Tree Theatre, Mosaic Youth Theatre, Western Michigan University, Education for the Arts, Kalamazoo Regional Educational Services Agency. Research/creative interests: Arts Integration, Theatre for Young Audiences, Aesthetic Education, Applied Drama, Process Drama and Creativity
