Biography
Joseph Zettelmaier is a three-time nominee for the American Theatre
Critics Award for best
new play, first in 2006 for All Childish
Things (Planet Ant Theatre & BoarsHead
Theatre),
then in 2007 for Language Lessons (Performance Network) and in
2010 for It Came From
Mars (Performance Network & Williamston Theatre). Other plays
include The All Childish
Things Trilogy, and Dr. Seward's Dracula (Planet Ant Theatre),
Snow Angels (Eastern
Michigan University), Blackwater Ballad (Cherry Hill Theatre),
Night Blooming (Blackbird
Theatre & Eastern Michigan University), Point
of Origin and
The Stillness Between
Breaths (Performance Network). Point
of Origin won Best Locally
Created Script 2002
from the Ann Arbor News, and The Stillness
Between Breaths also
won Best New Play
2005 from the Oakland Press. The Stillness
Between Breaths was
also selected to appear in
the 2005 National New Play Network's Festival of New Plays. He
also co-authored
Flyover U.S.A. at the Williamston Theatre (Winner of the 2009
Thespie Award for Best
New Script). He also adapted Christmas
Carol’d for the
Performance Network. It Came
From Mars was a recipient of 2009’s Edgarton Foundation
Grant, and won Best New
Script 2010 from the Lansing State Journal. Later this season,
he’ll see his plays And The
Creek Don’t Rise performed at Williamston Theatre, and All
Childish Things at Hubris
Productions in Chicago. Joseph also remains active as both actor
and director, having
performed and directed at numerous regional theatres including
Williamson Theatre,
Performance Network, Purple Rose, and Blackbird Theatre.
