Biography:
Dr. Eiss received his two B.A.s from the University of Minnesota in English and Humanities, his M.S. in 20th Century Intellectual Thought from Mankato State University, and his Ph.D. from The University of North Dakota in English. His dissertation was in Creative Writing. He took post-graduate work at the University of Connecticut.

In addition to many lectures and articles, he has published four books. He is currently a full professor in the English department at EMU, specializing in mythology, children's literature, and creative writing.

Dr. Eiss' teaching has been widely recognized. Among his many awards and honors are the Special Service Award, Sigma Tau Delta; the Faculty Center for Instructional Effectiveness Grant for Teaching Innovations, EMU; and two Merit Awards for Outstanding Faculty, NMC. He is also actively involved in a number of professional organizations, including Chair, Children's Area, Popular Culture Association; ASCAP; Society of Children's Book Writers; President Emeritus, Michigan College English Association; International Research Society of Children's Literature.
