Graduate Programs

The Department of English Language & Literature offers degree programs designed to prepare students for rewarding careers in a wide variety of fields and disciplines. Coursework in English programs prepare students to organize and communicate ideas creatively and efficiently, recognize and evaluate various perspectives in both materials and data, and work productively and cooperatively. These skills are also invaluable to scholars intending to pursue advanced degrees, providing them with a solid foundation in dynamic academic inquiry and critical reasoning.

A major/minor in English is fundamentally a skill-based education—your knowledge of analysis paired with your ability to form compelling arguments and communicate them effectively will never be obsolete, unlike some degrees in technical fields. These competencies, often called "soft-skills", are recognized as essential tools for success within organizations large and small.
