Graduate Deadlines

After following the application guidelines on the application and admission page, please follow the priority deadlines detailed below to submit your application and corresponding materials. Please note that these are only recommended deadlines and are subject to change. If you apply after these deadlines, you may not be able to enroll in all of the classes you wish to take because class size is limited. Also, the Creative Writing program only admits students for the fall semester and has a definitive January 13th deadline for applications.

Applications & Corresponding Materials Deadlines
  • Fall: May 15th (exceptions: Creative Writing applicants; all applicants also applying for a Graduate Assistantship. In both cases the deadline is Feb. 15th)
  • Winter: October 15th
  • Spring: March 15th
  • Summer: April 15th
Applying for a Graduate Assistantship

Most graduate assistants are hired in the winter for fall positions, and applications for these positions are due February 15th. For more information on applying for a graduate assistantship, please visit the Financial Aid website.

Thesis Submission

Deadlines for submitting a completed thesis are shown below. For more information on writing and submitting a thesis, please see the theses and writing projects page.

If your graduation date is in:

  • December:
    • thesis is due to the Department Graduate Coordinator November 1st
    • thesis is due to the Graduate School November 15th
  • April:
    • thesis is due to the Department Graduate Coordinator March 1st
    • thesis is due to the Graduate School March 15th
  • June:
    • thesis is due to the Department Graduate Coordinator May 15th
    • thesis is due to the Graduate School June 1st
  • August:
    • thesis is due to the Department Graduate Coordinator July 1st
    • thesis is due to the Graduate School July15th
