BIO WS 1: Reading and Understanding Scientific Journal Articles
In order to gain a better understanding of how to read and write scientific papers, workshop participants will examine the conventions and writing strategies utilized in scientific journal articles. For this workshop, you must bring a printed copy of the scientific journal article provided by your instructor for Reading Assignment 1.
BIO WS 2: Preparing to Write for Upper-Level Science Writing
This workshop will provide detailed strategies for preparing to write scientific papers that meet the expectations for upper-level science courses. This workshop includes strategies for outlining, time management, and appropriate structuring of a scientific paper.
BIO WS 3: Developing Effective Collaboration Strategies
This workshop will help participants develop strategies they can use in their collaborative team projects. The workshop will cover various collaboration methods, as well as the roles of effective team members and time management skills.
BIO WS 4: Revision Strategies for Science Writing
This workshop will cover specific strategies for revising scientific papers. With helpful tips to help organize, evaluate, and strengthen writing, participants will be able to craft an effective revision plan to improve their writing. This workshop must be completed before WS 5.
BIO WS 5: Practicing Revising Your Own Scientific Writing
This workshop will put the revision plan developed in WS 4 to practical use. For this reason, WS 4 must be attended BEFORE WS 5. This workshop may be repeated for credit up to three times. For this hands-on workshop, you must bring a science paper you are revising.
BIO WS 6: Presenting Your Scientific Research
This workshop will provide practical strategies to help your PowerPoint presentations look professional and to strengthen your delivery when you present your scientific research to large groups.
