Workshops for High School Students and Parents

The UWC teams with the Eastern Michigan Writing Project to offer workshops for teens and parents of teens that promote writing and offer insight into the kinds of writing teens will encounter in college.

How to Help Your Teen Prepare for College Writing
This workshop is for parents and guardians who would like to learn more about what teens can expect to write in college and how they can prepare for the writing experiences that they’ll encounter there.  We explore a variety of activities that promote writing as well as effective ways to respond to adolescents about their writing.

Preparing for College Writing: A Workshop for Teens
This workshop is for teens who would like to learn more about what they can do to get ready for college writing.  We explore what it takes to be a successful writer in college by looking more closely at the writer’s CRAFT and a variety of interesting genres.

For more information on scheduling one of these teen and/or parent workshops, please contact Kimberly Pavlock, Eastern Michigan Writing Project Youth and Family Literacy Director, at: kpavlock@emich.edu.  For more details on these workshops, see the full workshop descriptions on EMWP’s website
