The Writing Minor

About the Minor

The Department of English Language and Literature offers a 21 hour minor available to EMU undergraduates interested in adding an emphasis in writing to their degree program.

Minor Requirements: 21 hours

Required Courses: 9 hours
(Students take all of these courses)

ENGL328 Writing, Style and Technology (3 hrs)

One course from the following:

  • ENGL324 Principles of Technical Communication (3 hrs)
  • ENGL326 Research Writing (3 hrs)
  • ENGL335 Imaginative Writing (3 hrs)*

One course from the following:

  • ENGL417 Writing about Controversies (3 hrs)
  • ENGL422 Writer’s Workshop: Fiction or Poetry (3 hrs)*
  • ENGL424 Technical Writing (3 hrs)

Restricted Elective Courses: 12 hours

(Students take four courses from the following list)
