Interests and Expertise

Josiah has been working with high stakes assessment since 2013, and now works as the EMU
IELTS Testing Center Administrator. He worked with college placement and disability testing
services during his time at St. Clair County Community College and has worked in several
positions at the EMU IELTS Testing Center including Invigilator, Clerical Marker, Clerical
Marker Trainer, Test Day Supervisor, and now Administrator.

Josiah’s research centers around K-12 and higher education with a focus on English Language
learning. He enjoys studying the intersectionality of different modalities of English literacy and
how they support one another in a learning environment. He also enjoys researching how
environmental factors impact educational assessment and ways to reduce the negative impact on
test scores attributed to socioeconomic factors.
