Civil War Battlefield Tour

Visit key Civil War sites on an eight-day bus tour with fellow EMU students earning credits in an accelerated, one-week format. See five major battlefields and small engagement sites of the eastern theater. Study the soldier’s perspective with tours and discussions emphasizing how individual soldiers and small unit action led to success or failure. Besides visiting the actual sites of conflict, you’ll study primary documents written by participants. Major stops include Gettysburg, Penn.; Hagerstown, Md.; Washington, D.C. and Richmond, Petersburg, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania, Va.

Lodging
You'll stay at several hotels throughout Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. Accommodations are chosen for proximity to sites on the itinerary. Rooms are based on multiple occupancies with other students. Any special room requests must be made at the time of registration along with your registration documents. In the past we’ve stayed at the locations listed below:

Program Fee: $880 (2012) plus tuition and fees.    If you're using financial aid, additional assistance may be available for those who qualify. Contact  financial aid .  
Includes:

  • Lodging
  • Some meals
  • Transportation for daily excursions and between cities by private motorcoach
  • Venue admission for required events

Exclusions:

  • EMU tuition and fees
  • Textbooks (if applicable)
  • Personal expenditures
  • Transportation charges resulting from deviation from printed itinerary.

The tour begins and ends at EMU. You're responsible for your own transportation to and from EMU.
