Nonprofit Leadership Excellence Series
As part of the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance, Eastern Michigan University offers a series of fully online, non-credit courses designed to help nonprofit professionals achieve nationally recognized Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential. Typically achieved while earning a degree, EMU is the only university approved to offer a path to this certification outside of the pursuit of a degree. All courses follow the guidelines of the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Program’s 10 professional competencies:
- Communication, marketing and public relations
- Cultural competency and diversity
- Financial resource development and management
- Foundations and management of the nonprofit sector
- Legal and ethical decision making
- Future of the nonprofit sector
- Leadership and advocacy
- Personal and professional development
- Program development
- Volunteer and human resource management
The national Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) certification can be earned through the completion of eight, online courses, demonstration of nonprofit leadership and service activities, and attendance at one of two national nonprofit conferences. Each course is self-paced. You may register at any time during the three months the course is open, however, it is recommended that you register at least a month before the end of term in order to have the time to complete the course. Each course typically takes two to four weeks to complete.
