Karen Busch is the Director of the Bruce K. Nelson Faculty Development Center . She has a doctoral degree in higher, adult and lifelong education, and a master's degree in curriculum design and learning theory. Prior to coming to Eastern Michigan University in July of 2004, Karen was the Director of Faculty Development in the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University for 13 years. During that time, she received the highest award offered by the university: Distinguished Academic Specialist. Her research interests lie in the organization of learning opportunities in experiential education settings.

Joseph A. Scazzero

Joseph A. Scazzero is a Professor of Decision Sciences in the Department of Accounting and Finance at Eastern Michigan University . His research interests include experimental design, quality control, and software engineering. His publications have appeared in Communications in Statistics, Journal of Statistical Planning and Inference, Information & Management, International Journal of Quality and Reliability Management, Total Quality Management, and Information Systems Management Journal . His work experience includes the design and analysis of surveys while working at the U.S. Government Accountability Office and serving as a statistician/quality control engineer for Westinghouse on the AWACS radar program. Professor Scazzero received a Ph.D. (Applied Statistics) and M.A. (Statistics) from The Pennsylvania State University, M.S. (Computer Science) from Johns Hopkins University , and A.B. (Mathematics) from Rutgers College .

 

Deborah Silverman

Deborah Silverman is an Assistant Professor of Human Nutrition and Dietetics in the School of Health Sciences at Eastern Michigan University .  She previously served as a Faculty Development Fellow and focused her fellowship on the importance of quality and design in online and hybrid courses and the integration of appropriate technologies to enhance teaching and achieve significant learning outcomes. As the Associate Director of Technology she assists and supports faculty on selecting and utilizing appropriate technologies to enhance teaching and demonstrate significant learning outcomes through activities such as EMU's Pilot Podcasting Project and the Technovations Forums.  She coordinates the “Quality Matters Project”, “Course Syllabus Checklist” resource, and the “Guide to EMU Course Management Systems” resource and prepares materials focused for, and individual assistance to, faculty on services that utilize technologies in teaching and learning.  Her expertise in teaching and learning has been recognized by the American Dietetic Association's Foundation (Award for Excellence in Dietetics Education) and eCollege (first recipient of the Excellence in Online Teaching Award). She is certified through eCollege in online course design.

Meredith Miracle is a Senior at EMU majoring in Language, Literature, and Writing, with a minor in Women's and Gender Studies. After graduating in April 2008, Meredith plans on going into EMU's Women's and Gender Studies graduate program to receive a Master's degree.
