Application Procedures
If you would like to be considered for financial aid at Eastern Michigan University, you
will need to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA). This page will help you with important FAFSA procedures
and deadlines so that your financial aid can be processed in
a timely manner.

for a PIN to Submit a FAFSA over the Internet

New Freshman or New Transfer Student
If you are a new freshman or transfer student enrolled at EMU and would like to be considered
for Financial Aid, you will need to fill out aFree Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Complete the FAFSA
online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov
Paper applications are available at high school guidance office, public libraries and university financial aid offces.
EMU does not have a separate financial aid application. All admitted students who have submitted a FAFSA will be considered for financial aid.
FAFSAs processed by the federal government by March 15th, are considered first for all available aid programs. Because processing time
usually takes from 2 to 4 weeks, please submit your FAFSA to
the Federal Student Aid Programs no later than February 15th. Some types of aid are available regardless of when you apply.
Returning EMU Student
Complete your FAFSA annually as soon after January 1st as possible.
If you submitted a paper FAFSA the Department of Education
will not have renewal FAFSA information for you. You will
complete the FAFSA online this year. You can do this electronically at: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Spring Summer Aid
To receive financial aid
for Spring and/or summer semesters, you will also need to fill out a Spring/Summer Financial Aid Application which will become available
mid February as an online form you can download and print
from our Web site, or you may pick up this form in the Office
of Financial Aid located in 403 Pierce Hall. Please remember
to file early to be considered for priority aid.
Applying
for a Personal Indentification Number (PIN) to Submit a FAFSA
over the Internet
If you would like to submit a FAFSA electronically, you (and
your parent[s], if you are a dependent student) must first be
issued a Personal Identification Number (PIN). After you have
received your PIN, you can submit your FAFSA online, view the
status of any existing loan through the National
Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), change your
current PIN and update any other information on file with the
Department of Education. To apply for a PIN, please visit www.pin.ed.gov,
click on the PIN REQUEST AND INFORMATION button,
then select APPLY FOR PIN.
