Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Status Descriptions

Please match your current financial aid SAP status from your my.emich account with the descriptions below for an explanation of your status.

You may have a combination of one or more statuses listed below i.e. Warning-CR + Nearing MCE, in this case you would review both "Warning-CR deficiency" and "Nearing Max Credit Hours."

Being reviewed manually

Your situation requires that we review your status manually. Your status should be updated within 2 weeks.

Cancelled

After being warned that you were not in compliance with the SAP policy in your last semester of enrollment, your GPA and/or Completion Rate is still below the minimum requirements of the SAP policy. You are not eligible for financial aid. We will continue to evaluate your status. If in the future you meet all three conditions, you may regain eligibility for aid. You may appeal the cancellation of your aid if you have extenuating circumstances and a plan for future improvement. Please see the SAP Appeal Cover Sheet for deadlines and details about the appeal process.

Cancelled -CR deficiency

After being warned that you were not in compliance with the SAP policy in your last semester of enrollment, your completion rate is still below our minimum requirement. You are not eligible for financial aid. We will continue to evaluate your status. If in the future you meet all three conditions, you may regain eligibility for aid. You may appeal the cancellation of your aid if you have extenuating circumstances and a plan for future improvement. Please see the SAP Appeal Cover Sheet for deadlines and details about the appeal process.

Cancelled-GPA deficiency

After being warned that you were not in compliance with the SAP policy in your last semester of enrollment, your GPA is still below our minimum requirement. You are not eligible for financial aid. We will continue to evaluate your status. If in the future you meet all three conditions, you may regain eligibility for aid. You may appeal the cancellation of your aid if you have extenuating circumstances and a plan for future improvement. Cancelled-GPA & CR deficiencies

After being warned that you were not in compliance with the SAP policy in your last semester of enrollment, your GPA and Completion Rate are still below our minimum requirements. You are not eligible for financial aid. We will continue to evaluate your status. If in the future you meet all three conditions, you may regain eligibility for aid. You may appeal the cancellation of your aid if you have extenuating circumstances and a plan for future improvement. Eligible for aid

You are currently meeting all SAP requirements and are eligible for federal, state and institutional aid or are eligible based on an appeal approval.

Max Credit Hours reached

You have reached the 150% limit of overall credit hours attempted and are no longer eligible for federal and state aid while completing this program. If you have an extenuating circumstance you may qualify for an extension. Maximum Credit Hours Reached Appeal forms may be downloaded from the Forms Directory

Nearing Max Credit Hours

You are within one full-time semester of reaching the 150% limit of overall credit hours attempted for your program. You will no longer be eligible once you have reached the 150% limit. If your program (as outlined in the University Catalog) requires more than 124 credit hours undergraduate or 30 credit hours graduate, contact our office.

Not yet reviewed

Your Satisfactory academic progress has not yet been evaluated. This will not prevent you from receiving aid.

One Semester of Probation

You are not currently meeting one or all of the 3 conditions of eligibility. However, based on an appeal to our office, we have approved one semester of Probation in which you are eligible for financial aid. Students may receive aid for a total of one semester on a Probation status, after that semester students are expected to be in compliance with the SAP policy.

Pre-cancellation 1

Your GPA and/or Completion Rate has dropped below the minimum requirements of the SAP policy. You are currently eligible for aid but if after two semesters of enrollment you still have either a GPA or Completion Rate deficiency, you will no longer be eligible for aid. This status was assigned prior to fall semester 2011 when the new SAP Policy became effective.

Pre-cancellation 2

Your GPA and/or Completion Rate has dropped below the minimum requirements of the SAP policy. You are currently eligible for aid but if after your next semester of enrollment you still have either a GPA or Completion Rate deficiency, you will no longer be eligible for aid. This status was assigned prior to fall semester 2011 when the new SAP Policy became effective.

Pre-cancellation 3

Your GPA and/or Completion Rate has dropped below the minimum requirements of the SAP policy. You are currently eligible for aid but if after your next semester of enrollment you still have either a GPA or Completion Rate deficiency, you will no longer be eligible for aid. This status was assigned prior to fall semester 2011 when the new SAP Policy became effective.

Probation - Academic Plan 1

You are not currently meeting one or all of the 3 conditions of eligibility. However, based on an appeal to our office, we have approved one semester of Probation in which you are eligible for financial aid. You have agreed to the terms of an Academic Plan and students who continue to meet the conditions of their Academic Plan will continue to be eligible for financial aid until they are back into compliance with the entire SAP policy. Your Academic Plan requires that in each future semester you have a semester GPA of 2.0 or higher and complete a minimum of 67% of your attempted semester credit hours.

Probation - Academic Plan 2

You are not currently meeting one or all of the 3 conditions of eligibility. However, based on an appeal to our office, we have approved one semester of Probation in which you are eligible for financial aid. You have agreed to the terms of an Academic Plan and students who continue to meet the conditions of their Academic Plan will continue to be eligible for financial aid until they are back into compliance with the entire SAP policy. Your Academic Plan requires that in each future semester you have a semester GPA of 2.0 or higher and you must complete 100% of your attempted semester credit hours.

Probation - Academic Plan 3

You are not currently meeting one or all of the 3 conditions of eligibility. However, based on an appeal to our office, we have approved one semester of Probation in which you are eligible for financial aid. You have agreed to the terms of an Academic Plan and students who continue to meet the conditions of their Academic Plan will continue to be eligible for financial aid until they are back into compliance with the entire SAP policy. Your Academic Plan requires that in each future semester you have a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher and you must complete 100% of your attempted semester credit hours.

Probation - Academic Plan 4

You are not currently meeting one or all of the 3 conditions of eligibility. However, based on an appeal to our office, we have approved one semester of Probation in which you are eligible for financial aid. You have agreed to the terms of an Academic Plan and students who continue to meet the conditions of their Academic Plan will continue to be eligible for financial aid until they are back into compliance with the entire SAP policy. Your Academic Plan requires that in each future semester you complete 100% of your courses with a C grade or higher.

Probation - Academic Plan 5

You are not currently meeting one or all of the 3 conditions of eligibility. However, based on an appeal to our office, we have approved one semester of Probation in which you are eligible for financial aid. You have agreed to the terms of an Academic Plan and students who continue to meet the conditions of their Academic Plan will continue to be eligible for financial aid until they are back into compliance with the entire SAP policy. Your Academic Plan requires that in each future semester you complete 100% of your courses with a B grade or higher.

Probation - Academic Plan 6

You are not currently meeting one or all of the 3 conditions of eligibility. However, based on an appeal to our office, we have approved one semester of Probation in which you are eligible for financial aid. You have agreed to the terms of an Academic Plan and students who continue to meet the conditions of their Academic Plan will continue to be eligible for financial aid until they are back into compliance with the entire SAP policy. The details of your Academic Plan are specific to your circumstances and were emailed to your my.emich account.

Warning-CR deficiency

Your Completion Rate has dropped below the minimum requirements of the SAP policy. Students may receive aid for a total of one semester on a Warning status. After that semester students are expected to be in compliance with the SAP policy to avoid aid cancelation. Please take action to bring your Completion Rate back into compliance with our minimum requirements. If you need assistance developing a plan to improve your GPA, please seek advice from the Office of Financial Aid as well as your Academic Advisor.
