External Scholarship Information

External scholarships are available to students from organizations and agencies outside the University. One of the most common external scholarships is the Michigan Competitive Scholarship, awarded through the Michigan Office of Scholarships and Grants.

For information, contact the Michigan Office of Scholarships and Grants Web site or call 888.447.2687. We encourage students to avoid search services that charge a fee.

Additionally, visiting Web sites affiliated with your area of interest (such as Health Services or Social Services) often provides additional information that may not appear on the normal search services.

NALS of Michigan Scholarship Award
One annual scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to individuals enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a school of advanced education pursuing a degree in the Legal field. High school seniors as well as college students are eligible. You must also have at least a B average. In a percentile system, no lower than a 90 percent.

Deadline: January 15, 2010

GEICO Achievement Awards      
Student must be Sophomore or Junior have at least 3.0 overall GPA. Be majoring in Business, IT, math, or a related field.  Be a leader on campus and in the community. Information & Applications can be found at geico.jobs/achievement   Deadline: February 20, 2010


Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund Scholarship
The Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund Scholarships for female students from developing countries. Six to ten grants of approximately $12,000 each.
Application must be filled out online www.mmmf-grants.org , you can also check if you are eligible. Deadline: February 18, 2010

US Bank
Scholarships available to current college freshman, sophomore and juniors who are enrolled for Fall 2009 and must be a U. S. citizen or permanent resident alien.

Army Nurse Corps  
Association Scholarships for nursing students who plan to enter or who have previously served a component of the US Army and enrolled in a program not funded by a component of the US Army, or nursing students whose parent(s) and/or spouse are or have served in a component of the US Army.

Epilepsy Council of West Michigan
Joel Bierens Scholarship $500
Student will need letter from their attending doctor who is treating their epilepsy, also a letter describing them selves and their condition, must be Michigan resident.

Association on American Indian Affairs
Scholarships available to Native American and Alaska Native students. Information and Applications available at www.indian-affairs.org  

The BeckRidge Chorale is offering three $1000.00 scholarships to students, ages 16 and over, interested in vocal performance. Michigan Service Scholarship ( Americorps Program)

$1000.00 Scholarships are available to students who complete 300 hours of service in one year to community agencies.  Information and applications available at http://www.micampuscompact.org/

National Society Daughters of the American Revolution 
Scholarships available to Undergraduate students must be U.S. Citizens.   Information and Applications are available at www.dar.org/

Hispanic Scholarship Fund
Scholarships available for students of Hispanic Heritage, must be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 , have cumulative GPA of 3.0 , pursing first undergraduate of graduate degree, must apply for FAFSA.  Information and Applications available at: www.hsf.net

The Sallie Mae Fund
The Sallie Mae fund This is a website to search for scholarships that are awarded each year, but you must take the first step and apply. Tell them about yourself and you will get a list of scholarships for which you might be eligible from a database of 3 million awards worth more than $16 billion.

Automotive Women's Alliance Foundation
This scholarship opportunity is for women entering the field of business, design or engineering, with career aspirations in the automotive industry. Awards are in the amount of $2,500.
