George Linn, Eastern Michigan University's former director
of records and registration from 1955-1986, died Jan. 29.
He was 87.
"He was a wonderful man and a person who really cared
about the students and solving problems," said John Fountain,
EMU's former vice president for university relations. "I
never heard him say anything bad about anyone. He was a
very caring individual."

"He was a very kind and a very gentle man. He was really
a pleasure to work for and work under," said Judy Massingill,
coordinator of records in the office of records and registration. "He
was really and truly committed to the students and committed
to his staff."
Linn received a doctorate from the University of Michigan
and a master's degree from Albion College. He was honorably
discharged from the U.S. Army, where he served in the Pacific
Theatre in intelligence and reconnaissance, during World
War II.
Linn began working at EMU in 1955 and retired after 31
years as the director of records and registration. He returned
to EMU, from 1998-2001, as a part-time equivalency evaluator.
His son, Peter, is the head swim coach at the University.
George Linn was the founder and member of St. Matthews
United Methodist Church in Ypsilanti and a member of Delta
Tau Delta fraternity. Linn was involved in the Kiwanis
Club of Ypsilanti and a life member of Phoenix Lodge #13
F and AM.
Survivors include his wife, Anne; his children, Peter
and Sally; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter;
and his brothers, Hubert and Henry.
A memorial service took place Feb. 6 at the Village of
St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor.
