The following are news briefs about important
events and activities happening at Eastern Michigan University.
- Office of Nutrition
Services hosts Open House: Join the
Office of Nutrition Services (ONS) for its first
open house, Wednesday, Feb. 18, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.,
in the lobby outside room 108, Roosevelt Hall. This
event will feature a food demonstration by Chef Tom
Murray; blood pressure readings by Snow Health Center;
a display from the EMU Women’s Center; free
massages from the Ann Arbor Institute of Massage
Therapy; free food from Beezy’s Café and
a raffle. The event is free. There also will be an “Ask
a Registered Dietitian” segment featuring three
of EMU’s
dietitians, including Janet Simpson, 11 a.m. to noon;
Alice Jo Rainville, noon to 1 p.m.; and Diane Reynolds,

- MBA Open House: An
MBA Open House is scheduled Thursday, Feb. 19, 4-7 p.m.,
EMU-Livonia campus at I-275 and Six Mile Road. The open
house will provide those interested in pursuing an MBA
with the following: meet academic advisers and faculty;
get the admissions application fee waived; and tailor
a program to one's unique experiences and interests.

- Computer Science
Program Review: EMU's Department of
Computer Science, one of the Academic Review and
Continuous Improvement Cycle's departments, has completed
its program reviews for 2008-2009 and invites the
campus community to provide input and feedback to
complete the review process. All interested faculty
and staff are invited to review and comment on the
computer science program reviews electronically through
Friday, Feb. 20. To access the Computer Science program
review report, log in to my.emich, click on the reports
tab, and click on the IRIM Reports. From the list,
choose, "How
to Provide Comments for the Academic Review and Continuous
Improvement Cycle." For more

- Board of Regents
meeting: The
Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents meets Tuesday,
Feb. 24. The schedule is as follows: Educational Policies
Committee (Affirmative Action presentation), 11-11:45
a.m., 205 Welch; Educational Policies Committee,
1-1:45 p.m., 205Welch; Finance, Audit and Investment
Committee, 2-3 p.m., 201 Welch; and regular meeting
and communications section, 3:15 p.m., 201 Welch.
Due to the winter break date of the Board of Regents
meeting, two committees will meet Tuesday, Feb. 17.
The Faculty Affairs Committee meets 10-10:45 a.m.,
201 Welch; and the Student Affairs Committee
meets 1:45-2:30 p.m., 201 Welch. For more information,

Goldman |
Distinguished
Speaker Series continues: Edward Goldman,
associate vice president and deputy general counsel
for the University of Michigan, presents, "Legal
and Ethical Issues in Clinical Research with Human
Subjects," Thursday,
March 12, 7:30 p.m., in St. Joseph's Hospital's Continuing
Education Auditorium. Goldman is an internationally
known expert in the area of ethical and legal aspects
of medical practice and clinical research. He also
served on President Clinton's White House Task Force
on Legal Aspects of Health Care Reform. The
lecture is part of EMU's Clinical Administration
Distinguished Speaker Series. The lecture is free
and open to all EMU students, faculty and the community.
- Faculty Tutor Appreciation
Day nominations: Have you had a tutor, SI or faculty member who inspired
you or worked above and beyond your expectations? If so,
Holman Learning Center is providing you with the opportunity
to recognize this special person. Faculty Tutor Appreciation
Day nomination forms can be filled out and submitted now
at http://tlc.emich.edu/programs/fta/NominationForm.htm.
The nomination deadline is Friday, March 13. Faculty Tutor
Appreciation Day takes place March 30, wrapping up EMU's

- Warren Scholarship
available: Applications for the Warren
Scholarship are now being accepted. The recipients
must be an undergraduate, with an overall GPA of
3.0 (GPA of 3.4 within their major), and with financial
need. Applicants must have completed 60 credit hours
at the time of application and must be carrying at
least 12 credit hours at EMU. The total Warren Scholarship
is distributed to five or more applicants annually. The
approximate value is $2,000 each. For more information,
