DOUBLE BILL: EMU Theatre will perform
the award-winning "Angels in America" in
two parts
March 20-April 5. |
"Millennium Approaches" will be performed March 20-21
and April 2, 7 p.m.; March 22 and 29, 3 p.m.; and March
28, 2 p.m. "Perestroika" will be performed March 26-28
and April 3-4, 7 p.m.; and April 5, 3 p.m. Due to serious
content and language, "Angels in America" is recommended
for mature audiences.
Kushner created the play in two parts to critically examine
societal decay in the 1980s, raising issues involving the
Cold War, religious persecution, homosexuality and the
AIDS crisis. Often described as one of the most influential
plays of the 20th century, "Angels in America" went on
to win a Pulitzer Prize and multiple Tony Awards.
Employing both wit and humor, Kushner's epic looks through
the eyes of a group of New Yorkers wrestling with love
and loyalty, life and death, religion and morality, and
politics and integrity. Embroiled in personal struggles,
the characters must confront their history, values and
desires before choosing a path to survive the new millennium.
Collectively, the plays feature one cast of eight that
portray approximately 36 roles.
Ticket prices are $15 general admission, $12 for students
and $9 for MAINSTAGE patrons. Patrons who purchase tickets
for both plays at the same time will receive their tickets
at the MAINSTAGE price of $9 per show. MAINSTAGE
members who purchase tickets for both plays at the same
time will receive their tickets at $6 per show.
