AFRICAN
HISTORY: Ali Mazrui,
EMU's Thelma McAndless
Distinguished Scholar, discusses "The
Africans: A Triple Heritage," with EMU
students in Pray-Harrold March 18. During
his visit, which concluded March 23, Mazrui
discussed racial prejudice against Islam;
hosted a four-day seminar to discuss Africa;
attended a student mixer in his honor; and
presented a public lecture, entitled "Africa
in Global Racial Context: From Othello to
Obama," in
the Student Center Auditorium. Mazrui is
director of the Institute of Global Cultural
Studies and Albert Schweitzer Professor in
the Humanities at Binghamton University-State
University of New York. The McAndless endowed
chair is designed to bring distinguished
artists and scholars in the humanities to
