Teacher Job Fair

the Convocation Center.

  • Teacher Job Fair: Graduating seniors and alumni searching for teaching positions will have the opportunity to meet with more than 400 recruiters when Eastern Michigan University hosts its Teacher Job Fair Wednesday, April 22, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at EMU's Convocation Center. More than 150 school districts from 23 states and two countries will be in attendance. Participants may register at the door for $20.   • An evening with Martin and English: The EMU Alumni Office hosts an evening with EMU President Susan Martin and Head Football Coach Ron English Thursday, April 23, 5:30-7:30 p.m., in downtown Detroit at the Roostertail (100 Marquette Drive). Tickets for the reception are $15 and can be purchased by calling the Alumni Office at 487-0250. All alumni are welcome.

    Reception for Don Loppnow: The University community is invited to join the Provost's Office and the President for a ‘thank you’ reception to celebrate the career of Provost and Executive Vice President Don Loppnow Thursday, April 23, noon-2 p.m., Room 310A/B, Student Center.   • Michigan Graduate Education Day: Graduate students from colleges and universities throughout Michigan will attend Michigan Graduate Education Day, Thursday, April 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the west and south wings of the Capitol building in Lansing. More than 60 graduate students from 15 Michigan colleges and universities will display their graduate research and discuss — with legislators — such issues as innovation, economic development and environmental protection. Michigan House Representative Pam Byrnes and Senator Randy Richardville will attend the event and speak in support of Michigan Graduate Education Week, scheduled April 20-24.   • Student Center extended hours: The Student Center will have extended hours for the final exam schedule. Now through Saturday, April 25, the schedule is as follows: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 2 a.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 a.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. For Winter Commencement, Sunday, April 26, hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Food and retail hours may vary.     Return to Earn: Career Services hosts Return to Earn, a job readiness fair for displaced workers, April 29, 5-9 p.m., Student Center. Career Services' goal is to assist displaced workers in making sure their resumes, interviewing skills and job search strategies meet the expectations and standards of what employers are looking for in 2009. There also will be a session on how to successfully work a job fair and attendees will have the option of having their resume reviewed that evening. The format will be short workshops and moderated employer panels. Participants will choose those sessions they're most interested in attending. Participants are encouraged to save their seat by calling Career Services at 487-0400. This event is free and not kid friendly.
  • Office Professionals Day program: The 2009 Office Professionals Day program, entitled "Excellence in Action: Enhancing Your Star Qualities," is scheduled Wednesday, April 29, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Student Center. Invitations to confidential clerical (CC) and clerical secretarial (CS) employees have been distributed. Employees can RSVP via e-mail to hr_tpd@emich.edu by Thursday, April 23.   • Alumni Awards Dinner: Seven accomplished Eastern Michigan University alumni will be honored at the 48th Annual Alumni Awards Dinner Saturday, May 9, at the Ypsilanti Marriott at Eagle Crest. David Blixt, Terrence J. L. Thompson, Allen D. Fazio, Nichole Francis Reynolds, Kenneth "Red" Simmons, Duane Zemper and Ken Stevens will be honored. The evening will feature a reception at 6 p.m., followed by a seated dinner and program at 7 p.m. Tickets for the awards dinner are $55 per person or $400 for a table of eight. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the Alumni Relations at 487-0250.
  • EMU historical photo display: EMU celebrates 160 years of "Putting Education First" with a look back in pictures. More than 40 historical pictures are currently on display in the EMU Student Center, second floor, outside the University Art Gallery. Faculty, staff, students and visitors are invited to view the photos (dating back to the late 1800s) in testimony to EMU's rich heritage in education. Michigan Comics Show

  • Michigan Comics Show: The University Gallery hosts the Michigan Comics Show through June 5. The exhibition is composed of editorial cartoons, gag panels, comic strips and comic book art by 50 contemporary creators.   • Life in the Classroom: Faculty are sought to deliver a "Life in the Classroom" session to this fall's freshmen class. This presentation is part of Fusion: New Student Orientation. Numerous concurrent faculty are needed in order to deliver this content to all new students. The session will be offered Sunday, Sept. 6, 11 a.m. to noon (Labor Day weekend). The presentation content has been developed by EMU faculty and will be provided to all faculty volunteers, along with a brief training prior to the session.   • Tuition waiver notice: The deadlines for employee and employee spouse/dependents tuition waiver application submission for the spring term is Thursday, May 7. For summer term, the deadline is Thursday, July 2. Failure to turn in an application on time will result in the application being denied. Please submit them to Human Resources, 140 McKenny Hall.
