schools by GI
Jobs magazine for 2010. |
"We have a central location for veterans and a full-time
person dedicated to serving them," said Shaftone Dunklin,
director of EMU's Veterans Services. "We also have comprehensive
services and favorable policies toward turning military
experience into college credits."
EMU currently certifies approximately 300 students for
GI Bill benefits, according to Dunklin.
According to the magazine, approximately 400,000 troops
leave the military each year and are eligible for GI Bill
benefits upon separation from the military.
Also included on the list are Ferris State University,
Western Michigan University, Michigan Technical University
and Grand Valley State University.
The list comes as veterans enroll using the post 9/11
GI Bill, which was enacted Aug. 1. The bill provides financial
support for education and housing to individuals with at
least 90 days of service on or after Sept. 11, 2001.
The list
was compiled by polling more than 7,000 schools nationwide.
Methodology, criteria and weighting for the list were developed
with the assistance of an academic advisory committee consisting
of educators and administrators from several different
schools.
Criteria for making the list included efforts to recruit
and retain military and veteran students, results in recruiting
military and veteran students, and academic accreditations.
