- Henry Ford Community
College outreach event: Join EMU President
Susan Martin for an outreach event at Henry Ford Community
College in Dearborn Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 3:30-5:30
p.m. The event will feature light refreshments and
the opportunity to meet both college presidents. Friends
and guests are welcome to attend. For more information,

Holmes |
The Holmes family has operated the Chelsea Milling Co.
for more than 120 years. Holmes is the fourth generation
to work at the company. The company’s entire operation,
from milling flour to mixing, packaging, warehousing and
shipping, is based in Chelsea, Mich. Known for its 21 “Jiffy
Mixes,” the
company produces 1.1 million packages of its popular Jiffy
Corn Muffin mix every day in addition to other products.
Its recognizable blue-and-white boxes are shipped to all
50 states and foreign countries through the United States
military. The company has also expanded its line by selling
specially formulated products to restaurants and overseas
markets.

- EMU blood
drive: Make
a dash to help save lives at the 50-yard blood drive,
Oct. 6-8, noon to 6 p.m., Ballroom B, Student Center.
WXYT The Ticket’s Doug Karsch will broadcast live
from the drive, Monday, Oct. 6, 2:30 p.m., and his colleague,
Jay Towers, will broadcast from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 8.
Swoop, EMU’s mascot, also will make a surprise
visit during the three-day drive. To donate, log on to
www.givelife.org and type in sponsor code 'EMU' to make
an appointment today. Donation takes less than an hour
and one single unit of blood can help save up to three
lives.
- Student recruitment
radio/billboard ads: EMU student recruitment
radio ads are now airing on FM stations WDVD, WKQI
and WDRQ. The ads also promote the Oct. 18 open house.
The ads will end the week of Nov. 17. In addition,
two CBS Outdoor digital poster boards will promote
the Oct. 18 open house through the "10-18-08" approach.
Nineteen more CBS Outdoor static poster boards, located
along major roads, were placed to promote the open house.
In addition, University Marketing has hired a social
networking marketing company to promote EMU and the open
house on the Web. Starting next week, CBS Outdoor will
place 22 billboards along major freeways to promote student
recruitment/retention/return to

TAKE A LOOK: The next Explore
Eastern
event for high school and
transfer students is
Oct. 18. |
- Explore Eastern scheduled
Oct. 18: The Explore Eastern program is
a great way for high school students and transfer students
to learn about EMU and how an EMU education can launch
the path to their future. The next Explore Eastern event
is scheduled Oct. 18, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Student Center.
All students attending will be able to apply for admission,
free of charge. One high school senior who enrolls at
EMU will receive 12 free credit hours of in-state equivalent
tuition. One transfer student who enrolls at EMU will
receive six free credit hours of in-state equivalent

- Annual security report
available: A copy of Eastern Michigan
University's Annual Security Report is now available.
This report includes statistics for the previous three
years concerning reported crimes that occurred on-campus;
in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or
controlled by Eastern Michigan University; and on public
property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible
from the campus. The report also includes institutional
policies concerning campus security, such as policies
concerning sexual assault, and other matters. You can

- Faculty eFellows program: The eFellows program was created to support faculty in
getting the resources needed to integrate technology into
their teaching. The program has been continued for the
2008-2009 academic year for tenured or tenure-track faculty
and full-time
lecturers. Priority funding will be given
to proposals that focus on projects that involve faculty-to-faculty
collaborations; collaborations and partnerships between
faculty and students to integrate technology into learning
or research; redesign of face-to-face formatted courses
into Web-enhanced courses that focus on specific pedagogical
issues; or innovative projects that involve the integration
of technology as learning objects or strategies to achieve
the learning outcomes of a course that has been vetted
into the General Education curriculum. Other outcomes also
may be funded. The deadline for fall applications is Oct.

- Masters of the Road: Halle
Library will exhibit "Masters of the Road," an
acclaimed display of international vintage posters from
the collection of Discount Tire. The exhibit will be
open to the public through Nov. 23, in
Halle Library. Bruce T. Halle, for whom the library is
named, began collecting vintage posters advertising tires
in 1982. Since then, he has amassed more than 325 color
lithographs dating from 1888 to the mid-1970s, and printed
in 17 countries. The display is in conjunction with the
10th anniversary celebration of the opening of Halle
Library on EMU's campus. For more information, contact

Bruce T. Halle Library has established a campuswide license
to the online edition of the Chronicle of Higher Education
and the Chronicle of Philanthropy. You no longer need
a personal subscription to either publication. When on

- Continuing Education
Scholarships available: Four Continuing
Education Scholarships are available for students studying
through Continuing Education. Undergraduate and graduate
students enrolled in any of the programs offered through
Continuing Education during the winter or spring 2009
terms are eligible. The application deadline is Nov.
