The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents approved
the appointments of seven new lecturers at its regular
meeting Sept. 16.
Of the seven appointments, four are female and three are
male. These faculty appointments were effective Aug. 29.
New lecturers and their departments are:
Sue Brokaw, of Ypsilanti, lecturer I,
foreign languages. Brokaw has been a lecturer of English
courses at Eastern Michigan University from 2003-08. Previously,
she was a freelance editor for the University Renal Research
and Education Association from 2004-2005. Brokaw received
her master’s degree in teaching English to students
of other languages (TESOL) from Eastern Michigan University
and her bachelor’s degree in English from the University
of Michigan-Dearborn.
Megan Gore, of Maybee, lecturer
I, communication, media and theatre arts. Gore previously
was an adjunct lecturer at Eastern Michigan University
from 2005-2008 and an associate director with WDIV-TV4
in Detroit from 2004-08. Gore received both her master’s
degree and bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan
University.
Sarah Heidt, of Ypsilanti, lecturer I,
history and philosophy. Heidt had been a lecturer of philosophy
at Eastern Michigan University from 2006-08 and an adjunct
professor at Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Detroit
from 2006-08. Heidt received her doctorate in philosophy
from Yale University and her bachelor’s degree in
philosophy from Yale College.
Anthony Kurek, of Temperance, lecturer
I, accounting and finance. Before coming to EMU, Kurek
was an auditor and tax accountant for Plante & Moran
PLLC in Toledo, Ohio, from 2005-08. During that period,
he also was a campus recruiting team member and campus
lead for Plante & Moran’s
efforts to serve as a contact with the University of Toledo.
Kurek received both his master’s degree in accounting
and his bachelor’s degree in business administration
from Eastern Michigan University.
Michelle Rose, of Howell, lecturer I,
developmental mathematics. Rose has been a math adjunct
faculty at Washtenaw Community College from 2006-08 and
at Lansing Community College from 2005-08. She also has
been a course evaluator at Marygrove College from 2006-08.
Rose received her master’s
degree in the art of teaching from Marygrove College in
Detroit and her bachelor’s of science degree in elementary
certification from the University of Michigan-Flint.

John Seibert, of Ann Arbor, lecturer
III, communication and theatre arts. Seibert had been a
lecturer at Eastern Michigan University from 2003-08. Before
that, he was a visiting assistant professor of theatre
at the University of Michigan-Flint from 2001-02. Seibert
received his master’s
degree in theater arts from the University of Minnesota
and his bachelor’s degree in speech communication
education from Southern Illinois University.
John Zastoupil, of Ann Arbor, lecturer
I, music and dance. Before coming to EMU, Zastoupil was
music director of the Michigan Pops Orchestra from 2006-07
and a graduate student instructor with the University of
Michigan Bands from 2005-07. Zastoupil received his master’s
degree in music from the University of Michigan and his
bachelor’s
degree in music education from Baylor University.
